When to Consider Facial Plastic Surgery
Most facial plastic surgery procedures are intended to correct visual deformities when the outward signs are skin sagging, large amounts of folding or wrinkling or abnormal features. These include eyelid surgery and eye lifts, brow lifts, facelifts, neck lifts and nose surgeries. Another popular facial plastic surgery is ear surgery.
Completely reshaping the facial features usually involves some form of facial surgery. This may include the use of certain materials and tools, the repositioning of skin and muscle tissue and the removal of excess skin and fat.
Facelifts and Neck Lifts
A facelift is performed in order to make a person look younger. During a typical procedure, the skin can be pulled up and away from the supporting tissues. Some fatty material can be removed, the skin may be draped back into place and the excess skin is removed. Known as a rhytidectomy, a facelift sometimes involves the repositioning of muscle tissue as well. The result is smoother, more taut skin on the lower half of the face. Similar techniques can be used in a neck lift procedure to address issues in the neck region.
Nose Surgery
Known as a rhinoplasty, a “nose job” usually involves the removal and/or repositioning of cartilage. This helps to straighten the nose and make the overall facial features look much more balanced. Septoplasty may also be performed if the main issue is breathing.
Otoplasty
Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is often performed in much the same way as a rhinoplasty. During this procedure, the ears may be slightly pinned backwards through the removal or repositioning of cartilage.
Eyelid Surgery
During this procedure, skin and excess fatty tissue may be removed so that the eyelids will not sag. This procedure can help make the eyes and overall face look more youthful. It can be performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids, depending on the situation.
