What’s the Best Age for Getting Botox?

BOTOX is extremely popular because it provides patients with reliable results. Each session only takes a few minutes, so the treatment doesn’t prevent people from living a busy, active life. At New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in Weymouth, MA, we offer injectables to patients of all ages. Read on to find out whether now could be the perfect time for you to start getting cosmetic injections.

What Is the Best Age for Getting BOTOX?

It’s hard to determine the perfect age for getting neuromodulator treatment without seeing the patient. Each person is different, and they have unique cosmetic issues and lifestyles. Those who expose their skin to a lot of sunlight, drink a lot of alcohol, and fail to get enough sleep might need treatment in their late 20s or early 30s because their bodies have aged rapidly.

On the other hand, patients who have taken excellent care of their skin might not need to come to the clinic until their 40s. Genetic factors also play a role in determining how quickly wrinkles and fine lines appear, however, and sometimes the best lifestyle can’t stop premature aging.

People over 50 can still benefit from botulinum toxin injections, but they might need to combine this treatment with some of our other methods to address deep, static wrinkles and a loss of volume in the mid-face.

In Your 20s

Most people still have very smooth, wrinkle-free skin in their 20s, so they might think that botulinum toxin treatment isn’t necessary. This could be true, but there are several reasons why people in this age group come to the clinic. Some are worried about the shape of their lips, and they want to achieve a more even and plumper appearance.

Botulinum toxin is a good solution because it relaxes the muscles around the mouth and therefore makes the lips look bigger without adding any extra volume. We also see some people in their late 20s who would like to prevent the first signs of aging from changing their appearance. Since neuromodulators relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, they are great for people who want to prevent their small, dynamic wrinkles from becoming static.

In Your 30s and 40s

Most of our patients are in their mid-30s to mid-40s when they come for their first set of injections. At that age, the skin is still smooth and elastic enough to respond well to treatment. However, the first wrinkles are becoming more apparent, and patients might be worried about how their appearance is changing. Usually, people in their 30s and 40s respond exceptionally well to botulinum toxin treatment.

If you’re starting at this age, you might need to see us once every three or four months. The body metabolizes botulinum toxin over time, so the treatment isn’t permanent. However, you can prolong your results by eating a healthy diet, avoiding excessive sunlight exposure, keeping your body hydrated, and doing a moderate amount of exercise.

In Your 50s and Beyond

Patients in their 50s and beyond usually have much deeper wrinkles than younger people. Their lines might have become static, so they no longer disappear when the face is neutral. Although botulinum toxin is still effective at smoothing out the dynamic lines and preventing further signs of aging, the treatment can’t address these deep, static wrinkles.

Our patients in this age group frequently start by getting surgery, dermal fillers, or laser therapy. Once they’ve achieved the smooth appearance they desire, they get botulinum toxin to relax their muscles and prolong the results from the other treatments.

Who Is Not a Good Candidate for Neuromodulator Treatment?

If you came to the clinic because you wanted to get plastic surgery and have been told that you can’t take part due to a medical issue, you might be disappointed. Fortunately, even people who can’t have elective operations are eligible for botulinum toxin and other injectables. You’re a good candidate if you’re worried about small wrinkles or you’d like to improve the shape of your lips.

You might not be eligible if there’s a chance that you could be pregnant, or you have a rash or open wound at the treatment site. You might need to look for another treatment if you’ve been diagnosed with a condition that affects the way your nerves function. The best way to find out whether you’re a good candidate is to call us and book a consultation.

Is This Treatment Safe?

Botulinum toxin injections are only available at medical clinics, and they can’t be administered by people who haven’t been properly trained. Because injectables are technique-sensitive, you’ll see the best results if you get treated by an experienced professional. As long as you work with someone who’s licensed to perform the injections, this treatment is safe and effective.
