Treating Rosacea with the VBeam Laser

Rosacea

Rosacea is a condition that affects the skin on the faces of millions of people. Its appearance can at times be quite obvious. At other times, however, the person may not even realize that he or she has the condition. It causes a reddish appearance that frequently resembles acne. The main impact it has on a person is that of a psychological nature. It can affect a person’s self-esteem and, consequently, their quality of life.

Rosacea occurs most frequently on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. It often manifests itself in the form of small blood vessels that are visible through the skin. It can also resemble bumps or pimples and can be accompanied by watery eyes.

If you have rosacea, you might want to discuss it with a doctor like Dr. Lazor. There are a number of treatment options available, one of the most effective being VBeam laser treatments. Laser treatments work by delivering concentrated beams of high intensity light onto the surface of the skin in the area to be treated. Lasers, in general, can be either ablative or non-ablative. Ablative lasers are frequently used to resurface the skin. When the old damaged tissue is destroyed by the laser, new and healthy tissue grows back in its place. Non-ablative laser treatments are less aggressive and stimulate the body to produce more collagen, which is a protein that becomes the foundation for healthy skin and other tissue.

VBeam laser technology works by using dyes to send out lasers of specific colors. This enables doctors to more effectively target specific kinds of tissue or blood vessels without having an impact on the surrounding tissue. This speeds up recovery time while improving the success rate of the treatment itself.

VBeam laser technology is often referred to as a vascular laser because of its use in treating dilated blood vessels, as in the case of rosacea. It targets the red protein hemoglobin, which is found in the blood vessels. VBeam laser treatments are effective at treating rosacea because, by nature, the condition is caused by dilated vessels. However, the treatment can be used for a number of other conditions as well. It is effective at removing red birthmarks and small red clumps of blood vessels. It can also be used to treat sun damage, remove warts, scars and some bruises that are slow to heal.

When VBeam laser treatments are used, complications like the development of infections, scars or blisters are very rare. In fact, VBeam technology is one of the safest laser treatments available.

When being used to treat rosacea, you should expect 3-5 treatments before you start to see a noticeable difference. Because the condition has a high potential to return even after successful treatments, you might want to schedule one or two maintenance treatments each year. Dr. Lazor can give you more detail regarding what to expect with VBeam laser treatments. He can evaluate your particular condition and lay out a treatment plan that gives you the greatest chance of success.
