Laser Treatments to Reduce Acne, Wrinkles, and Scars

laser treatment for acne and wrinkles

In the past decade, laser cosmetic surgery has become very popular in the reduction of acne, wrinkles, and scars. The power of laser surgery has been harnessed to assist cosmetic surgery. Medical lasers are focused beams of light that are used to correct problems in human tissue. Lasers are favored by surgeons because they allow them to be more precise than ever before.

At New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center, we offer a variety of laser treatment options to help our patients get smooth, bright and radiant skin. We have treatments that help with acne, wrinkles, rosacea, varicose veins and other skin woes. Our medical staff, led by Dr. John Lazor, can help customize a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs. We will meet with you to determine the most effective treatment options, so you get the best possible results. As people age, their skin loses collagen, becomes less elastic, and has more difficulty retaining its shape after being stretched. This is how wrinkles form. Scars are caused when skin is injured and scar tissue seals the fissure back together. Unlike skin tissue, scars lack collagen, which is why they do not seamlessly blend into the skin around them. Lasers correct both of these problems by stimulating the deepest levels of skin tissue, thereby encouraging new skin growth.

Acne is experienced by patients of all ages – even adults who thought they left their acne-ridden years behind in puberty. When dead skin cells, bacteria, and oil invade a pore, that pore becomes red and inflamed. Lasers safely open up clogged pores to remove the debris inside them, while also making large pores appear smaller. This is why the best candidates for laser acne treatments are patients who have acne that’s become resistant to topical treatments (like astringents and creams), or is cystic in nature.

The amount of treatments you will need depends on the severity of your scarring, wrinkles, or acne. Typically, scarring and acne can be fully resolved between three and seven treatments, while the amount of laser treatments needed for wrinkles depends on how well your skin initially responds to it. You will need recurring laser treatments to address future scars that may appear.

Once you’re home from your laser procedure, you can help speed up your skin’s recovery and keep it safe by avoiding the sun. Post-treatment side effects include irritation and swelling, but these are expected and temporary. You can schedule more laser treatments after your initial surgical site has healed. The healing process can take up to two months, after which you’ll finally be able to see your permanent results.
