Am I a Candidate for Rhinoplasty Surgery

rhinoplasty

While you may not be able to control influences like your genetic makeup, you can control for how long you live with a nose with which you may not be entirely happy. Before you decide whether or not to get a nose job, however, you may want to learn more about rhinoplasty and what circumstances could make you an ideal candidate for this invasive surgery.

What is Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Rhinoplasty surgery, commonly called a nose job, is an invasive cosmetic procedure that involves reshaping the nose. It is performed primarily to enhance the patient’s facial features and achieve better facial harmony. However, it also is routinely performed to correct nasal defects like a deviated septum or to repair damages from injuries like broken bones.

Before you are allowed to undergo rhinoplasty surgery, you must meet specific qualifications. Our surgeon can tell you if you satisfy those criteria and what kind of nose job may be best for you.

Candidacy for Rhinoplasty Surgery

Patients are not generally permitted to go through this invasive surgery on a whim. They must meet specific medical criteria before their surgeons will agree to perform the procedure on them.

As such, before you can undergo this operation, you may need to have nasal defects like:
nasal asymmetry
a wide or narrow nasal bridge
narrow, wide, or upturned nostrils
visible humps or depressions
a bulbous or enlarged tip
a tip that upturns, hooks, or droops
a deviated septum

The type of nasal defect that you have will determine the type of rhinoplasty that you undergo.

What to Expect During Rhinoplasty Surgery

Once our surgeon deems you a suitable candidate for this surgery, you will then be scheduled for a time to go through the procedure.

After the procedure is finished, you will then be taken to recovery where you will be observed until you are discharged.

You can expect your recovery to last for several weeks. During that time, your face will be temporarily bruised and swollen.

It is important that you learn how to take care of your nose properly to avoid infection and to facilitate the best healing of your nose and face. At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, Dr. Lazor will provide you with the necessary instructions.
