If you could have a procedure that will have you looking 15 years younger within days, and with little recovery time, wouldn’t you get that procedure done as soon as possible?
Of course you would. And now you can.
At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, Mass., Dr. John B. Lazor offers mini-facelifts, also known as weekend facelifts.
These procedures have gained numerous fans over the past decade, and with good reason. They were developed for people who want a less-invasive procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia, and with minimal recovery time.
Doctor Lazor has been performing these mini-facelifts for many years and patients rave about their results. Because these procedures are done with a local anesthetic, patients recover very quickly and with minimal down time.
Procedures we offer include:
- Mini-facelift.
- Mini-necklift.
- Mini-browlift.
One of our patients, D.D. from Braintree, said the procedure was nothing short of amazing.
“I love looking in the mirror and seeing the face I had 15 years ago,” D.D. said.
Candidates
Candidates for these procedures are typically between 30 and 65 years old. The best candidates are in good overall health, but have mild or moderate lower facial and/or neck laxity.
The mini- facelift is ideal for patients who want to stay ahead of the aging process. It is also effective as a follow-up for patients who previously had full facelifts, but want additional rejuvenation of the face and neck area.
And mini-facelifts don’t prevent you from undergoing full facelift procedures in the future.
At New England Cosmetic, we offer two basic procedures:
The Anterior Mini-Lift
This procedure is for patients concerned about their lower face. This mini-lift is straightforward. An anesthetic solution is injected into the area in front of your ears. This solution will numb your lower face, inhibit bleeding, and gently separate the skin from the underlying tissue. Once the area is numb, small incisions are made beginning just in front of the ear and proceeding up to the hairline.
Incisions within the hair require no shaving. The facial plane is gently pulled to tighten the skin and is supported with deep sutures. Excess skin is tailored, and incisions are closed with several fine sutures.
The procedure takes between 90 minutes and two hours. If necessary, some patients receive a mild sedative before the procedure begins.
The Posterior Mini-Lift:
Also known as a mini-necklift, this procedure is for people concerned about the appearance of their neck and jowl areas. An anesthetic solution is injected behind the ears. This solution numbs the lower face and neck and inhibits bleeding in the area.
After the area is numb, small incisions are made behind the ear and proceed into the hairline. Skin is then elevated and gently redraped. Fine sutures are used to close incisions.
Recovery
The mini-facelift is known as the “weekend lift” because that’s about how long it takes to recover, although recovery time can vary depending on the patient.
Immediately after your procedure, an ace bandage will be wrapped under your chin and around the top of your head. This should be worn for 48 hours. It can be removed briefly to bathe and wash your hair.
It should continue to be worn for the ensuing five nights. Sleeping with your head elevated aids the recovery process. Any post-procedure discomfort can be reduced by cold compresses and pain medication.
Some patients may experience temporary bruising, but this can be covered up with makeup. And makeup may be applied right after the procedure. Your sutures will be removed after seven to 10 days. Any visible scars become less noticeable over time.
The Extended Mini-lift
This procedure combines the anterior and posterior procedures. Recovery time is a bit longer than the above procedures.
Results
How long your results last depends on factors such as lifestyle, sun exposure, skin type and heredity. For most patients, benefits from the mini-facelift last between five and 10 years.
Risks
Because these procedures are not as invasive as traditional facelifts, there is minimal risk of complications.
But as with any surgical procedure, there are risks of post-operative bleeding, infection, scarring and nerve damage.
If you want to take years off your appearance, but don’t want major disruptions to your life that major surgery can bring, a mini-facelift could be the procedure for you.
