Women with folds near their mouths or wrinkles between the eyes enjoy the cosmetic benefits from Botox injections. Generically known as botulinum toxin, this neurotoxin and protein is produced from a specific form of bacteria.
There are three types of botulinum toxin that are manufactured for use in cosmetic procedures, including Xeomin, Dysport and Botox. While botulinum toxin was originally developed to treat serious medical conditions such as excess perspiration, crossed eyes or muscle spasms in the face, physicians discovered quickly that botulinum toxin had positive cosmetic effects such as creating a younger facial appearance by reducing wrinkles. Today, hundreds of women utilize Botox, Dysport and Xeomin to combat common signs of aging.
At New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center, we offer Botox, Dysport and Xeomin treatment options to help fight wrinkles and other signs of aging on the face and neck. Our staff, led by Dr. John Lazor, can help determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you and your needs. We can help customize your treatment to ensure you get the best results possible. If you’re ready to get back a more youthful appearance, contact New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center today or stop by our Weymouth, MA office.
Treatments Create a Youthful Appearance
Dysport, Xeomin and Botox injections in the skin between the eyes or near the mouth helps to block the nerve activity in the facial muscles, reducing crow’s-feet, frown lines and marionette wrinkles. The effects of botulinum toxin eventually wear off, but many patients experience a more youthful appearance for up to four months.
Getting an injection of any form of botulinum toxin is now a routine cosmetic procedure. However, a patient history is necessary to determine if the treatment is safe. Women with neuromuscular diseases or allergies to eggs should avoid all forms of botulinum toxin. Physicians also advise that pregnant women and nursing mothers avoid this cosmetic procedure.
Each Brand Works Differently to Eliminate Wrinkles
Xeomin is recommended for moderate to severe wrinkles between the eyes while Botox is effective for mild to moderate lines. Dysport is a newer form of botulinum toxin that many researchers believe works better at eliminating facial lines than its precursor Botox. To decide the type of botulinum toxin to use on the face, talk to one of our staff members. We can explain the benefits of this substance along with the number of vials required. All types of botulinum toxins are manufactured in laboratories before insertion into sterile syringes that are sealed for shipment to medical spas. Upon arrival to our office, the syringes are kept in a climate controlled environment to prevent degradation.
The Effects Last Several Months
After a patient’s medical history is understood, we can analyze their face to plan the injections. The injection site is cleaned with an alcohol pad to destroy bacteria to prevent infection. The thin needle of a syringe is inserted under the skin tissue into muscles to paralyze the nerves. The physician focuses on treating the areas of the face where most wrinkles occur, such as next to the corners of the mouth or between the eyebrows. A patient will feel a slight amount of discomfort from the needle along with the substance entering the skin tissue. The injection site may bleed slightly, swell or develop a bruise. The paralyzing effects of Dysport, Xeomin or Botox take several days to begin with patients noticing fewer wrinkles for several months.
