How Does a Forehead Lift Work?

A forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is a safe outpatient anti-aging procedure. At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, MA, we are proud to offer this effective procedure to help our clients boost their self-esteem. Today, we’re taking a closer look at this procedure, including how it works and how long the results last. Keep reading to learn more.

How Does a Forehead Lift Work?

A forehead lift makes you look years younger by eliminating wrinkles and lines from your forehead. It also helps you look more alert by elevating sagging eyebrows. Moreover, a brow lift can enhance your appearance by removing excess skin. During your endoscopic brow lift, Dr. John B. Lazor MD, MBA, FACS will make some tiny incisions behind your hairline.

Through one of these incisions, he will insert a cannula with a minuscule camera attached to the end. This camera allows him to see the muscles and other underlying tissues that are causing your cosmetic concerns. Then, he will insert a tool that allows him to lift the sagging forehead tissues and anchor them in place. Once the underlying tissues have been improved, issues with the skin will be addressed, and the incisions will be closed.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Procedure?

Dr. Lazor will determine if you are a good candidate for a forehead lift during an initial evaluation. He will discuss your concerns and goals to verify that this procedure will be effective for you. He will also discuss your health and habits to verify the safety of the procedure. Ideally, you should be a non-smoker who is in good overall health. If you’re a smoker, you must be able to go a month without smoking.

He will also discuss all of the preparation and aftercare rules you must follow to help ensure the procedure and recovery go smoothly. Moreover, he will advise you on what results you can realistically expect. To be considered a good candidate for this procedure, you should have realistic expectations. Depending on the nature of your concerns, you may need to combine this procedure with others, like blepharoplasty, a facelift, or a mini facelift.

How Long Will the Results of My Procedure Last?

Individual results vary, but you can generally expect to enjoy the results of an endoscopic brow lift for five to 10 years. To help your results last as long as possible, you should maintain a healthy lifestyle. Staying hydrated, not smoking, minimizing alcohol consumption, and eating nutritiously will go a long way in helping your skin stay tight and smooth.

Another way to help extend the longevity of your results is to protect your skin from sun damage. You should minimize sun exposure during the middle of the day and wear sunscreen with a high sun protection factor when you go outside. To further protect your forehead from the sun, you should wear a visor or brimmed hat when outdoors.

How Do I Need to Prepare for Surgery?

For two weeks before your procedure, you need to avoid taking any painkillers besides Tylenol. You also should try to arrange for someone to stay with you for 24 to 48 hours to help you recover. We usually perform this procedure under local anesthesia, and no fasting is required if you receive this numbing medication. If you need general anesthesia because you need multiple surgeries in one visit, you should fast for 12 hours pre-op.

What Aftercare Rules Will I Need to Follow?

Once your procedure is complete, you may return home. However, you won’t be able to drive yourself home. You must have someone drive you home and run any errands for you until you have been off prescription analgesics for at least 24 hours, your vision is clear, and you can move your head normally. Besides not driving, it is essential that you do not drink alcohol for at least 14 days post-op.

It is also important that you apply an antibiotic ointment to your incisions three to four times daily and take pain medication as prescribed. Additionally, you should not sleep on your stomach for four weeks. For two weeks, you must not lie on your side. When you lie down, your head should be elevated at 45 degrees by several lofty pillows.

What Benefits Can I Get From a Facelift?

There is a wide range of benefits that a facelift can provide you. This highly effective procedure can eliminate nasolabial folds and jowls. Additionally, it can help you feel more confident in the appearance of your neck. Additionally, sagging skin can be tightened, and excess skin can be removed. Another benefit of this procedure is that we can tighten sagging muscles.
