How Does a Mini Neck Lift Work?

Do you feel like excess neck fat is making you look heavier than you really are? Do you have loose or excess neck skin that makes you want to put on a turtleneck or wear a scarf? If so, you may benefit from a mini neck lift at New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in Boston, MA.

How Does a Mini Neck Lift Work?

During a mini neck lift, two very small incisions are made at your hairline near your ears. Through these discreet incisions, we can excise a little excess fat if you have excess fat you want to remove. However, if you have quite a bit of excess neck fat, we can perform liposuction in conjunction with your mini lift.

Also, through the tiny incisions made near your ears, we can remove any excess neck muscle you may have that is causing you problems. Often, the horizontal bands that appear on the neck are caused by overdeveloped muscles rather than excess fat deposits. Finally, we can remove any excess skin you may have and tighten loose skin. Afterward, we will suture the incisions shut and give you aftercare instructions.

How Quickly Does This Procedure Work?

How quickly this procedure works is up to you. Your age plays a role in determining how quickly the incisions will heal and how quickly you will be able to see your final results. However, your skin health and overall health affect how quickly your skin will heal following your procedure, too. As a good general rule of thumb, you can expect to see the final results of your procedure after three months.

How Long Does This Procedure Take?

How long your procedure will take depends on the scope of your procedure. For instance, your procedure will be completed quickly if you are only concerned about loose skin. If you are worried about excess neck, muscle, and fat tissue in the area, too, your procedure will take longer.

Also, the number of procedures you are receiving at the same time will affect the length of your procedure. For example, your procedure may only take a couple of hours if you are only getting a mini lift. On the other hand, your procedure may take between three and four hours if you are also getting submental liposuction.

How Long Do the Results of This Procedure Last?

You can expect the results of this procedure to last anywhere from two to five years. However, the fat removal results of this procedure are considered permanent. This is because your body can’t grow new fat cells. Therefore, once they are excised or suctioned out, they are gone for good. On the other hand, if you opt for a full lift, you can expect your results to last between 10 and 15 years if you remain in good health.

How Long Does the Recovery Period Take?

How long your recovery period will take depends on how healthy you are when you receive your mini lift and how well you care for yourself once your procedure is over. Following your mini lift, you will be required to keep your head elevated above your heart at all times, including when you are lying down, for 72 hours.

Also, you will need to wear a compression garment for 72 hours. If you focus on resting, you can resume all normal activities within 14 days. On the other hand, if you opt for a full lift, you must wait for at least six weeks before returning to your usual routine, such as intense exercise.

How to Recover Faster

To recover from your mini neck lift as quickly as possible, you need to make recovering your top priority. It is crucial that you listen to your body and rest whenever your body is telling you it needs rest. There is nothing wrong with taking naps during the first few days of your recovery period, and you should make sure you sleep at least 7.5 hours nightly.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Procedure?

We can determine whether you are a good candidate for this procedure when you come in for your initial consultation. To be considered a good candidate for any anti-aging procedure, you need to be in fairly good health and willing to follow all preparation instructions, including forgoing nicotine and alcohol for several days.

If you are in fairly good health and you can follow all preparation instructions, whether you are a better candidate for a mini lift or full lift will depend on the severity of your concerns. The more severe your concerns are, the more likely you are to need a full lift.
