How Quickly Does JUVÉDERM Start Working?

At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, MA, Dr. John B. Lazor MD, MBA, FACS is passionate about helping each of his clients achieve an aesthetic that makes them feel confident. We offer a wide range of aesthetic procedures and treatments designed to enhance beauty and improve self-confidence. Today, we’re taking a closer look at an injectable dermal filler known as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA. Read on to discover everything you need to know about this safe, effective treatment.

How Quickly Does JUVÉDERM Start Working?

This treatment starts working as the injections are administered, stimulating the localized fibroblasts and encouraging extra collagen production. Moreover, it immediately provides your skin with the hydration needed for extra collagen production. However, you should keep in mind that the final results of this treatment come from your body’s response to the injections over time.

Other Frequently Asked Questions Answered

How Soon Will I Be Able To See My Results?

You can expect to see an improvement in your treated areas as soon as your injections have been administered. However, your final results will not be immediately apparent. It usually takes between 10 and 14 days for your skin to absorb the injected filler and produce enough extra collagen for you to see satisfactory results.

Is There Anything I Can Do To See My Final Results Faster?

Yes, there are steps you can take to help your skin produce collagen as efficiently as it can. One of the best things you can do is to stick to a healthy diet. To produce collagen, your body needs a lot of water and nutrients, like protein and vitamin C. It is a good idea to include a good source of protein in every meal and eat lots of water-rich fruits and vegetables. Additionally, you should try to drink at least six to eight cups of hydrating beverages, like water or tea.

Another way to facilitate the efficient development of results is to avoid drinking alcohol. If you drink alcohol before your final results become apparent, keep in mind that alcohol is a diuretic. Imbibing can result in dehydration and cause your body to flush out vital nutrients. Therefore, you should take care to remain hydrated. Also, you should keep in mind that you will not be able to drink alcohol during the first 24 hours following your treatment session.

What Aftercare Guidelines Will I Need To Follow?

Besides not drinking alcohol for 24 hours after your treatment, it is important that you do not smoke during the same timeframe. Additionally, you will not be able to take any blood-thinning pharmaceuticals, like fish oil supplements or ibuprofen. It is also important that you do not rub the treatment areas or subject them to too much pressure. Therefore, you will need to sleep on your back on the night of your treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA injections may be right for you if you are over the age of 21 and concerned about volume loss in your midface or chin. It is most often used to reverse age-related collagen loss. However, it can also be used to augment the cheeks to enhance their appearance after extreme fat loss. You also may be considered a good candidate for this treatment if you are concerned about:

  • Jowls
  • A poorly defined jawline
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Your cheekbone contours
  • Your undereye area

How Long Will the Results of My Treatment Last?

The longevity of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA results varies from person to person. However, clinical trial results indicate that optimal results can be enjoyed for approximately two years. Since the results of this treatment are derived from the extra collagen your body produced after your injection session, you can help to enjoy your optimal results for as long as possible by taking steps to keep your collagen healthy.

What Can I Do To Maintain the Health of My Collagen?

The most effective step you can take to keep your collagen healthy and skin beautiful is to prevent sun damage. Research has shown that sun damage is the leading cause of premature skin aging, and other sources of UV radiation, like tanning beds, are bad for the health and appearance of your skin, too.

Another very beneficial thing you can do to care for your skin is to keep it hydrated. You should moisturize your skin once or twice daily, and you should strongly consider using an occlusive moisturizer to help lock the hydration in your skin. Additionally, you should avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Furthermore, sticking to a mostly healthy diet will keep your skin beautiful for longer.

Schedule Your Initial Consultation Today

JUVÉDERM injections will immediately volumize your skin in the treatment regions. However, it will take 10 to 14 days for your body to break down the hyaluronic acid-based gel and produce enough extra collagen to provide you with long-lasting results.
