What You Should Know About Rhinoplasty in Boston

rhinoplasty

You have never been completely satisfied with the look of your nose. Maybe your nose is misaligned, lumpy, causes you to experience noticeable breathing problems or is deformed in some other significant way. If you are a resident of Boston who is dealing with these sorts of issues with your nose, then you may have been considering doing something about it. Seeing a plastic surgeon for rhinoplasty is the path many take to resolve these types of ongoing nasal difficulties. However, before you commit to allowing our plastic surgeon to alter the structure of your nose, there are a few things you should become aware of first so that you will be properly informed as to what to expect.

Preoperative Steps

In the two-weeks leading up to surgery, it will be important for you to cease from using all anti-inflammatory drugs and taking fish oils or other supplements high in omega-3 fatty acids. These drugs and supplements are used to prevent inflammation, but you do not want to disrupt the body’s normal inflammation response as you prepare for rhinoplasty surgery. Our specialist will be able to instruct you concerning when it would be considered safe to return to using these drugs and supplements again. The normal swelling process will be an important part of your recovery, so be certain to raise this issue with your physician if you use these items on a regular basis.

Initial Recovery Time

When it comes to determining how much time it will take, from the surgery through to the end of your initial recovery phase, you should expect to need around seven to 10-days away from work on average.

Other Concerns

After surgery, you will want to avoid wearing glasses in the first three to four weeks. It is important to not put any additional pressure on your nose during this time. However, it is acceptable to return to wearing contacts after two or three days on average. To keep pressure down, you will want to try to keep your head elevated as much as you can in the initial weeks following surgery. Additionally, you will not want to return to heavy physical activity in the first few weeks after surgery either.

If you are ready to reshape your nose, contact us today at New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center to schedule your consultation.
