Laser Resurfacing

laser resurfacing

The passing of time and exposure to the sun through the years often causes skin to age, bringing unsightly brown spots, fine lines and eventually, even deeper lines.

People for years have searched for methods to revitalize their skin and return it to its once-youthful look.

Many people turn to chemical peels and dermabrasion to fight these signs of aging.  Today, there is another weapon in our anti-aging arsenal: Laser resurfacing.

At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, Mass., we offer laser resurfacing to treat a variety of skin conditions that develop as we age. To learn more about our laser resurfacing treatments, or to schedule an appointment, contact New England Cosmetic today.

Why Laser Resurfacing?

This technology allows us to vaporize unattractive and aged layers of skin and replace them to give patients smoother skin and a younger appearance.

Laser technology allows us to customize treatment for the needs of individual patients, allowing you to achieve the results you are looking for.

Laser resurfacing generates heat that causes the collagen in the skin to shrink and contract – essentially providing patients with a mini-lift.

Treatment can help:

  • Remove lines around the mouth.
  • Reduce lines around the eyes.
  • Decrease the severity of forehead lines.

Patients typically will require pre-treatment with oral and topical medications – and staying out of the sun is essential.

At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, our professional team will meet with you to discuss any concerns you may have about laser resurfacing and answer any questions.

Post-treatment, patients are likely to experience redness and some swelling, but this is temporary. Pain relievers can be used if needed.

As with any treatment, there are some risks associated with laser resurfacing. They can include infection, pigmentation changes, red skin and scarring.  But most patients say this treatment is effective and side effects are not a major issue.

Your skin should improve after one treatment, but some patients require follow-up visits.

Who Is Laser Skin Resurfacing For?

If you have developed wrinkles, scars, uneven skin, or age spots, laser skin resurfacing may be the right procedure to address these issues.

Conditions that can benefit from laser resurfacing include:

  • Lax skin.
  • Loss of collagen.
  • Acne scarring.
  • Freckles and brown spots.
  • Birthmarks

How Long Will Results Last?

Laser resurfacing provides long-lasting results. But it can’t stop your skin from aging. Results can be prolonged if you make protecting your skin from the sun a priority.

At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, we can work with you to help you develop a skin-care regimen that promotes long-lasting results after your treatment is complete.

How Much Improvement Will I See?

The results from laser resurfacing vary. A lot depends on your lifestyle, including diet, alcohol and tobacco use. A healthy diet and lifestyle, along with sun-protection measures, can produce better results and maintain them longer.

What Happens Post-Treatment?

Most patients will have a fast recovery period with minimal downtime. Expect to see some redness after your procedure, also some peeling or crusting may occur. These are temporary conditions. Most patients can wear makeup about a week after undergoing treatment.

We cannot overstate the importance of remaining out of the sun until your skin has fully healed.

When you do venture out, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen product with an SPF of at least 30. Wearing hats and clothing to cover treated areas is also a good idea.

Everyone gets older, and signs of aging will appear in each of us as the years go by. But you can take steps today to slow down and repair the effects of aging on your skin through laser resurfacing.

Contact New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center to learn how we can help you start your journey to younger-looking, more attractive skin.
