What Is Belotero Good For?

Belotero is a family of injectable dermal fillers that lift and tighten the soft tissues of the face. These products are delivered just under the skin to restore a more youthful appearance by instantly smoothing moderate to severe lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth. At New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, MA, Dr. Lazor offers this treatment alongside a comprehensive menu of cosmetic services.

What Is Belotero Good For?

Referred to as a “liquid facelift,” each of these products is formulated to target specific areas of the face. They are versatile enough to treat the most delicate areas of the lips but also the deeper folds of the smile lines around the mouth. These injectable gels consist of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring molecule that acts as an important agent of hydration in the skin.

The products vary in consistency in order to better treat the variety of wrinkles and lines found in the face, from the cheeks and temples to the lips and nasolabial folds (NSFs). Thicker gels treat deeper folds, such as marionette lines, and thinner gels treat fine lines, such as vertical lip lines. Thinner gels have more spreadability, allowing for more natural facial expressions.

The Belotero Family

Belotero Balance

This product is designed to treat moderate to severe etched-in lines and wrinkles. While it is durable enough to treat deeper folds of the smile lines, it is also suitable to treat the finer, more delicate lines of the lips. Research shows that this product can last for six months or more.

Belotero Soft

This product is the thinnest of all the gels in this family, allowing it to migrate easily for more natural facial contours and expressions. It is highly cohesive, making its softness perfect for the delicate lines and wrinkles near the lips. It’s also good for treating crow’s feet and fine lines in the forehead. Studies suggest this product lasts for up to a year.

Belotero Intense

This formula gives excellent support to the skin’s elasticity and flexibility. It is perfect for lip augmentation and correcting the deeper folds of marionette lines and NSFs. This product also hides flaws such as scarring and skin damage. Like Soft, research shows Intense also lasts up to one year.

Belotero Volume

The thickest of all gels in this family, this product is good for facial contouring and volumizing areas of lost collagen in the midface, such as near the cheeks and temples. Its thickness allows it to stay put and resist breaking down in the body longer than its counterparts. This gives it lasting effects for up to 18 months.

Belotero Hydro

The goal of this product is to restore hydration. Our skin dries out and stretches thin as it loses collagen and elasticity with the aging process. Hydro rehydrates the skin’s layers, plumping and supporting areas of lost collagen and flexibility. Given every two to three times per month on average, this product helps the skin resist the wrinkling and fine lines that come with aging.

What Makes Belotero Different?

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide consisting of a chain of sugars that can hold almost one thousand times its weight in water. Our bodies produce HA naturally, but production slows as we age. Supplementing and re-establishing HA in the body can promote faster healing from things like environmental damage and sun exposure. Long-term use can actually stimulate the body’s own production of collagen and improve nutrient transfer.

In addition, since the HA used in these products is plant-derived, it is generally well-tolerated and integrates seamlessly into the skin. Adverse reactions are rare, and when they do occur it is typically due to other ingredients in the product.

Cross-Linking Technology

The HA used in Balance, Intense, and Volume are cross-linked, meaning that higher- and lower-weight molecules are linked together (as opposed to a product consisting of molecules of the same weight and molecular structure). This makes a much stronger, more durable gel that lasts longer and resists breaking down in the body longer than other gels. This leads to fewer office visits for maintenance treatments, which in turn means less money invested.

Are You a Good Candidate?

One of the most attractive features of dermal fillers is that they are a safe and effective alternative to cosmetic surgery. Many people turn to these products when they find that they are not a good candidate for surgery or simply prefer less invasive treatments. While most people who choose dermal fillers are over age 30, even young people can suffer the consequences of dry, sagging skin due to weight loss, health conditions, and hormonal imbalances.

That being said, just about anyone over age 21 who is dissatisfied with their skin can benefit from dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid products are compatible with other cosmetic services as well, including facials and chemical peels. However, be sure to let Dr. Lazor know if you have ever had any allergies or a history of anaphylaxis.

Get Started Today

Don’t let dissatisfaction with the appearance and texture of your skin rob you of your self-confidence. Belotero is a safe and efficient treatment to restore suppleness and elasticity to the skin while minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. The effects can last up to 18 months and is a non-invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery.
