What Is Xeomin Used for?

Xeomin is a highly effective injectable muscle relaxant offered at New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center in Weymouth, MA. It’s one of our most popular anti-aging treatments, and one reason it’s so popular is that it can be used to treat such a wide range of concerns. Read on to discover everything you need to know about this injectable muscle relaxant treatment, including what exactly it can be used for and how quickly it works.

What Is Xeomin Used for?

Xeomin can be used to address cosmetic concerns caused by overactive muscles. The most notable example is the temporary reversal of moderate or severe glabellar lines. These are the lines that run between your eyebrows, making you look perpetually concerned. Other common problems that can be treated with this injectable include:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead folds
  • Smile lines
  • Nasolabial folds

How Quickly Does This Treatment Work?

You can expect to start seeing your Xeomin results in just three days. Contrastingly, other injectable muscle relaxants tend to take four days to start working. Similarly, you may be able to see the final results of this treatment in just five to 10 days following your injections. In contrast, it may take around 10 to 14 days to see the results of an alternative injectable muscle relaxant.

How Long Will My Treatment Session Take?

Xeomin sessions typically take around 15 minutes to complete. However, you need to attend an initial consultation to get an idea of how long you can expect your treatment session to take. Several factors affect this, including how severe your cosmetic concerns are and how many cosmetic concerns you are trying to treat in a single session.

How Long Will the Results of My Treatment Last?

You can generally expect the results of your treatment to last for six months. For reference, the results of other injectable muscle relaxants usually last for three to four months. Factors affecting how long you can expect your results to last include your age, how severe your cosmetic concerns were, where your cosmetic concerns were located, and your skincare routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

You will most likely be considered a good candidate for this treatment if your cosmetic concerns are caused by overactive muscles. However, you must be at least 18 years of age to qualify to treat cosmetic concerns with this injectable. Another factor that will be considered when determining if you qualify is your health. It is of the utmost importance that you are relatively healthy to qualify for this treatment.

One reason it is so important that you are in good health is that certain medications can affect the injectable medication. To ensure that this treatment will be safe and effective for you, we will discuss all of the drugs and supplements you currently take. If you currently take something that could interact negatively with the treatment, you will need to stop taking it temporarily prior to your injection session.

How Should I Prepare for My Treatment Session?

Prior to your injectable muscle relaxant treatment, there are several drugs and supplements you need to stop taking. Among them are MAOIs, NSAIDs, garlic supplements, fish oil supplements, and vitamin E supplements. We will give you a comprehensive list of drugs to avoid during your initial consultation. Additionally, you need to protect your skin from sun damage in the two weeks leading up to your treatment session.

This is because we can’t administer this injectable into any area that is irritated. To protect yourself from sun damage, minimize your time spent outdoors when the sun’s UV rays are particularly strong. You should also avoid tanning lamps, tanning beds, and prolonged unprotected sun exposure. Other important things to avoid prior to your treatment session include drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes, cigars, or e-cigarettes.

Will There Be Any Downtime Following My Treatment Session?

No, there will not be any downtime required following your treatment session. Most people can return to work as soon as we have finished reviewing their aftercare guidelines with them. However, some people will need to take the rest of the day off from work.

What Aftercare Guidelines Will I Need To Follow?

One of the most important aftercare guidelines to follow after your treatment is to avoid getting too hot. If your job is very physically demanding, or you have to work in a very hot environment, you will not be able to return to work after your injection session. Similarly, you should not expose yourself to too much sunlight after your injection session.

If you work outside, limit your exposure to direct sunlight and make sure to use adequate sun protection. Another very important aftercare guideline to follow is to sleep on your back after treatment.
