A facelift can generate one of the most drastic transformations of all cosmetic treatments. It can provide a natural, younger-looking, fresher appearance. However, many cosmetic practices offer more than one kind of lift. New England Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center specializes in both full facelift and mini facelift procedures.
Full or Mini Facelift: What’s the difference?
Full
Full lifts are the best choice if you want to improve your entire face and neck. The treatment concentrates on both your lower and upper face, improving low or heavy brows, deep lines that surround your mouth and nose, and excessive skin around your jowls area for instance.
Full lifts can cause a quite dramatic improvement in the appearance of your entire face. For those that aren’t prepared for a treatment that has such drastic changes, or might feel you’re only concerned with improving one or two facial areas, in which case the mini facelift is your best choice.
Mini
The Anterior Mini Lift
This procedure is best for patients most concerned with their lower face. This mini lift usually takes between 90 minutes to two hours and is fairly straightforward. During this procedure, the facial plane is gently pulled to tighten the skin.
The Posterior Mini Lift:
This procedure is also known as a mini necklift. It is best suited for people concerned about the appearance of their neck and jowl areas. The skin is elevated and gently redraped.
The Extended Mini Lift:
This procedure combines both of the above procedures.
The mini lift is best suited for patients who are looking to stay ahead of the aging process. It can also be used as a follow-up procedure for those who have previously had full lifts but are looking to rejuvenate their face and/or neck areas.
What about your neck?
One other great way to determine if you’re suited to a full or mini facelift is to determine if you’d like your neck to be apart of the procedure. As previously discussed, the anterior mini lift is a facelift which only concentrates lower face. However, New England Cosmetic Surgery does offer a mini necklift (anterior mini lift) as a standalone procedure. Meanwhile, a full lift also focuses on your neck.
Excessive tissue in the jowl region and problems with skin laxity and tiny amounts of excess fat and skin are made substantially better with both a full or mini lift. If you’ve seen a lot of banding in the neck region, also referred to as “turkey neck” or general excessive skin on the neck and face area, it’d be better treated with the use of a full lift that will add in the neck lift, as well.
