Get an Eye Lift with Blepharoplasty

get an eye lift with blepharoplasty

Over time, skin of the upper eyelid can create folds that droop down over the eye and impair vision. Extra skin or fat deposits of the lower lid can make the eyes look puffy and baggy. Some lower eyelids droop down and pull the skin away from the eye and reveal the white of the eye below the iris. Excess skin around the eyes also causes an aged and tired appearance with wrinkles and bags under the eyes.

People get an eye lift with blepharoplasty when they have loose or sagging skin on their upper or lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty is the surgical procedure that is done to correct and improve the skin around the eye and restore the natural shape of the eyelid. This not only improves the patient’s vision, but it also rejuvenates the appearance with younger-looking eyes.

Why Get an Eye Lift with Blepharoplasty?

A typical blepharoplasty procedure removes excess skin, muscle and fatty tissues from around the eyes. Sometimes fat can be repositioned for a more natural appearance. The surgery can be performed for cosmetic reasons, medical reasons or a combination of both.

Who Is a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Patients who can get an eye lift with blepharoplasty are healthy and wish for an improved, more youthful appearance. They may have impaired vision due to extra skin over the eye. It is recommended that patients do not smoke before the surgery or during recovery to improve healing.

What Can Be Expected After the Surgery?

Blepharoplasty surgery is usually done within a couple of hours and the patient can be home that same night. It will probably be necessary for someone to drive the patient home. Walking and other light activity is fine after surgery, and may actually be recommended to help speed recovery. A return to normal activities does not usually take more than a week or two.

How Long Will Results Last?

As we age, skin will continue to stretch and sag. So, for the upper eyelid, most people are happy with their appearance for about ten years after they get an eye lift with blepharoplasty. Lower eyelid surgery does not usually need to be repeated.
