How Does a Blepharoplasty Work?

Are puffy, drooping eyelids taking a toll on your appearance? Would you like to turn back the clock and achieve a more rested, youthful appearance? New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, MA, offers Blepharoplasty, which is a medical term for an eyelid lift. Patients love this treatment because it refreshes their appearance and offers long-lasting results.

How Does a Blepharoplasty Work?

As we grow older, our skin becomes less elastic, and the delicate skin around the eyes is often one of the first places where lines and sagging appear. A Blepharoplasty gets rid of the excess skin, fat, and tissue that can contribute to drooping. This treatment can help with under-eye bags and puffiness while lifting the eyelids back to a more normal, youthful position.

During your treatment, we’ll make a tiny incision in the fold behind your eye and remove extra fat, skin, and muscle. If you’re having your lower lids treated, the incision will be made along your lower lash lines. The entire treatment can usually be performed in two hours or less, and you’ll be able to head home later that day to rest.

How Much Recovery Is Involved?

Patients who undergo an eyelid lift usually rest at home for about 10 days after treatment. We often prescribe a lubricating ointment that patients can use to protect their eyes during recovery and prevent dryness. Patients are asked to refrain from rigorous exercise and keep their heads elevated while they recover. You’ll also need to refrain from cosmetic use for a short period.

Can I Have Both Lids Done at the Same Time?

Yes. You can have your upper lids treated, your lower lids treated, or all of your lids treated. All of your lids will be addressed at the same time.

Am I a Good Candidate?

You’re in Good Health

The ideal candidate is a non-smoker in good overall health who doesn’t have any conditions that could hinder the healing process. It also helps if you’re emotionally healthy and have realistic expectations about what this treatment can accomplish.

You’re Frustrated With Your Eyelids

Most of the patients who seek out eyelid lifts are unhappy with the appearance of sagging eyelids. Puffiness, bags, and fine lines sometimes make the eyelids appear older or more tired than they are. In some cases, sagging eyelids can also obstruct a patient’s vision.

You Want Natural Improvement

Blepharoplasty lifts the lids and smooths and tightens the skin around the eyes, but it won’t alter your facial structure or change the shape or symmetry of your eyes. You’ll look like a more rested and relaxed version of yourself, but friends and family won’t be able to tell that you’ve had a cosmetic treatment performed.

What Other Benefits Are Associated With an Eyelid Lift?

Your Eyes Will Sparkle

Heavy eyelids and sagging skin can keep natural light from reaching your eyes. Once your lids have been lifted and excess skin has been tightened, the light will reach your eyes and you’ll notice that they sparkle more.

Cosmetics Will Go on More Easily

Sagging skin and drooping eyelids can make it difficult to apply cosmetics with precision. Blepharoplasty restores the natural shape and definition of your eyelids, making your cosmetics simpler to apply and more effective.

It’s Successful for Adults of All Ages

Because eyelids often begin to droop as patients age, many of the individuals who seek out this treatment are over the age of 35. But if you’re genetically predisposed to sag lids, you may be ready for Blepharoplasty at a younger age. The good news is that adults of all ages can undergo an eyelid lift and enjoy terrific results.

The Results Are Long-Lasting

Patients who undergo an eyelid lift often enjoy their results for 10 years or more. Improvements made to the lower eyelids are especially long-lasting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I Have Visible Scars?

Visible scars are not a concern with this treatment because the incisions we make will be tiny and will be performed in areas of the eye that can’t be seen.

Is This Treatment Different Than a Brow Lift?

Blepharoplasty, which focuses on lifting and rejuvenating the eyelids, is different than a brow lift. A brow or forehead lift lifts the brows up and away from the eyes. It can resolve drooping brow and forehead creases. Our practice performs brow lifts, and for some patients, we recommend that a brow lift and eyelid lift be done together.

How Can I Get Started?

If you’re interested in an eyelid lift, scheduling a consultation at our practice is the best way to get started. During this appointment, we’ll evaluate your eyelids and measure them. We’ll also talk with you about any medical conditions you have and the medications you’re taking. We’ll work with you to determine if an eyelid lift will best address your goals.

Take the First Step Toward Rejuvenated Eyes

If aging eyelids are giving you an older, tired appearance, Blepharoplasty can help. This straightforward treatment offers results that can last 10 years or more. Call New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth, MA, and schedule your eyelid lift consultation today!
