Taking Advantage of Dermal Fillers in Massachusetts

Dermal Fillers Massachusetts

There is no escaping it. Getting older means that eventually you will begin seeing lines, wrinkles and age spots making an appearance on your skin. While these common signs of skin aging are not harmful, they can leave you looking older than you actually feel. Skin aging is inevitable, but it does not have to occur prematurely. Factors like genetics, skin type and sun exposure can prematurely age your skin. In addition to some common-sense measures that can be taken, such as moisturizing and wearing sunscreen, there are some treatment options available for Massachusetts residents to enhance their skin’s appearance and turn back the clock. Not only are there more skin treatments available than ever before, most of them do not require surgery that can be expensive, risky and require significant downtime. Among the most popular of these treatments are dermal fillers.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

If you are looking for a minimally-invasive treatment for the loss of facial volume, dryness or wrinkles, a treatment with dermal fillers may help you. There are several different types of dermal fillers, but all use some sort of active ingredient mixed into a gel that is injected into the face to restore lost facial volume and smooth away fine lines and wrinkles.

The most common ingredient used in dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced by the body. For example, most the fillers we offer—Juvederm®, Restylane®, Perlane® and Belotero® make use of this beneficial substance. Radiesse® in particular is unique in the sense that it also employs calcium hydroxylapatite, another substance created by the body, to simultaneously restore facial volume and encourage extra collagen production.

Hyaluronic Acid

Is your skin thin and dry? If so, a hyaluronic acid filler may be right for you. Hyaluronic acid is like a sponge sitting within each individual skin cell. It absorbs moisture and holds it there, maintaining hydration and volume within your skin. As you get older or are subject to sun exposure, your hyaluronic acid begins breaking down more quickly, resulting in dry, cracked skin.

A hyaluronic acid dermal filler is the perfect non-surgical treatment for this type of skin. Your results will also last for many months, at which time you can safely come back for additional treatments to maintain your results.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite

If you would prefer a long-lasting filler that encourages your skin to improve over time, Radiesse® may be right for you. The secret behind Radiesse® is calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance that kick starts your body’s collagen production to produce results that keep getting better.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Side effects resulting from a treatment with dermal fillers are rare. You may experience minor redness, swelling, itching or discomfort at the injection sites for a few hours. However, the majority of patients don’t have to worry about experiencing any adverse reactions.

How Long Will My Results Last?

The answer depends upon the type of filler you receive. Generally, treatment with dermal fillers lasts for six months or longer. Once the product is metabolized by your body, you will require follow-up treatments in order to maintain your impressive results.

If you are in Massachusetts and interested in maintaining a youthful visage with dermal fillers, we can help you find out if they are right for you at the New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center in Weymouth. Contact us today to book your first appointment and learn more!
