BOTOX® is a unique cosmetic treatment designed to reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Unlike set wrinkles that are permanent skin folds, dynamic wrinkles form when we make certain facial expressions.
When the muscles of the face contract, the skin is pulled or relaxed. Thinning skin is, therefore, subject to contraction as well, and the result is fine lines or crow’s feet.
BOTOX® is unlike filler or plumping treatments in that moisture levels are not increased. Instead, it works to dampen the effect of muscle contraction.
We encourage you to learn more about how this simple, in-house procedure can significantly reduce the visible signs of non-set wrinkles on your face and forehead.
Facial Muscles and Wrinkling
As we age, our facial skin becomes less elastic and supple. This is due to the fact that the skin itself is becoming thinner. It is also no longer being properly supported by the underlying tissues. Collagen production decreases over the years, and skin that was once firm, uniform and full of moisture begins to become uneven in texture.
When we want to smile or frown, our brain sends signals to the nerves in the facial area. These nerve impulses cause the muscles of the face to contract.
How BOTOX® Works
When injected beneath the skin, BOTOX® immediately begins to relax the muscles. The individual can still smile or frown, but the sharp contortions near the eyes, mouth and on the forehead are much less noticeable.
How We Perform the Procedure
Before agreeing to administer BOTOX®, Dr. Lazor or our medical team sits down with the client and examines the facial features, the skin thickness and where set wrinkles exist.
The injections are made using a fine needle. The insertion of the needle stings just a bit. The BOTOX® is injected into several carefully chosen points on the face.
Eventually, the liquid is flushed from the body along with other waste.
