Who Is a Candidate for a Nose Job?

nose job

Rhinoplasty, also called a nose job, is cosmetic surgery that can add harmony to your facial appearance and/or help you breathe easier. The procedure reshapes the proportions of the nose and removes any structural obstructions to breathing. You are a good candidate for a nose job if you have completed your facial growth, don’t smoke and are in good physical health. If you would like to change your appearance it is important to have realistic expectations and be doing it for yourself and not to please someone else.

Your First Consultation

When you meet our board-certified plastic surgeon, your previous medical treatments and current medical condition will be ascertained. If you have any allergies to drugs, this is the time to mention it. You should also mention any current medications you are taking as well as dietary supplements, alcohol consumption and if you smoke.

After examining your nose and learning about your cosmetic expectations or breathing problems, our specialist will explain the options that are available to you. Your face will be measured and photographs may be taken. You will learn about your surgical options and we may recommend the best option for you to reach your goals.

This is your chance to ask any questions you have about a nose job, including how long the recovery period is and where the surgery will be performed.

Before the Surgery

There are some steps you may need to follow to prepare for the nose job surgery. If you smoke, you must quit at least six weeks before and after the surgery because smoking inhibits tissue healing. This is true for even the smallest surgical procedure and a nose job is major surgery. If you take prescription medication, it may be adjusted before the surgery or you may be asked to take certain medications.

During the Surgery

During the procedure, the surgeon can reshape the nose or nasal passages. Cartilage may be removed from the nose depending on the required results. The nasal passages can be cleared to improve breathing, if necessary. If the nostrils need to be altered, there may be small changes made in the natural creases of the nostrils. Our surgeon will give you specific instructions for the recovery period.

When you visit New England Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, you will learn more about the nose job procedure. This is your chance to improve your appearance or finally breathe easy. We are conveniently located in Weymouth, MA. Contact us today to schedule your consultation!
